Can anybody learn to sing?
Born with a beautiful voice? Yes, I believe some have an innately lovely sounding singing voice. However, anyone can learn to sing. Singing on pitch and maintaining proper intervals is a skill which requires listening to match pitches. Each singer should accept his unique vocal timbre. Don't aspire to copy other artists. Improved skill and posture, breath control, phrasing, and production is acquired through hard work and practice. It is important to choose repertoire within your range and music written in a proper key. Music technique and stage presence is developed over time with a knowledgeable instructor.
Do I need a piano to take piano lessons?
Yes, of course! Practice is essential for progress. However, before purchasing an expensive piano, consider an adequate electronic keyboard with proper spacing and weight in the keys. Invest in a piano once your child continues to show interest and progress in piano discipline.
Don't you think I'm too old to learn to read music?
Never, never, never! Some of my best students were older than sixty-five. Lifelong learning is an important means to stay active and exercise cognitive skills.
Is it true that music study is good for the brain?
Yes! Recent educational research has proven that the discipline of learning music is not only enjoyable, but also builds brain power. Music learning and performance essentially exercises the brain by strengthening the synapses where neurons join to transmit signals. Increased effectiveness of neurotransmitters has been shown to enhance skills in reading, math, and spacial reasoning.
